Summer Tennis Champions
The 2023 Fruitport Summer Recreational Tennis season closed out another great summer of lessons with our traditional summer tennis tournament. Over 42 participants took part in the weekly summer recreational lessons and over 30 demonstrated their tennis skills in the year-end tournament, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday, July 12th and 13th. The tournament showcased some of Fruitport’s best tennis talent. All division winners received a medal and runner-up got a new can of balls.
In our 10 and under, Quickstart tennis, which includes foam balls and junior racquets on 18-foot nets, 5-10 year olds played to learn tennis this summer. During the tournament, Hudson Sundell hit some great shots and rallied points on Kallen Sytsma. Karson, Emerson, Payton, Claira, Jack, Salene, Claire and Isabella, were the other participants hitting serves and shots.
In girls 12 and under Brylie Buffam had a hard fought win over Elyse Nowicki, in a very crowded field of competition. In boy’s action, Aiden Gardner defeated Carter Mason in a back-and-forth match.
15 and under competition saw some great matches with middle school and high school athletes vying for the medal. The championship match between Chloe Lopez-Woirol and Josalynn Nowicki saw some great extended points. Nathan Medema got the win against Dylan Winskas in the boys championship match which saw great shots and points.
Some of the area’s best tennis players fought it out in 18 and under. In the 18 girls play, Grace Sweet defeated Josalynn Nowicki in a great match for the top honors. In boys play Sebastian Sweet got the best of Zane Williamson.
Summer tennis provides Fruitport area student/athletes with an opportunity to display great teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work and enjoyment for the game. As coach I am very grateful for the parental assistance I receive while teaching and coaching your kids. Thank you for your continued support for Fruitport tennis!
